Sunday Stat Day

Aloha, folks!

It has been a pretty tumultous week for us at kettletell. I have TONS of video to edit and post, and I do promise some (back) posting late late late tonight.

For now, for the sake of consistency, here’s my stats:

Angela's stats 06.28.09Yup. I’m a 35-year old woman, standing at 5′ 4″. And apparently, my weight fluctuates within 2 pounds on no particular schedule at all.

I don’t need to take a test to know that I’m a classic “emotional eater.” Forget the “eater” part; I can be emotional. It’s all good.

What I need to take a hold of is somehow stopping what has in the past been an automatic response to disappointment, failure, or any other unmet expectation. (Note: My background is in both education and counseling, so this may get a little hokey for some.)

In the typical A then B then C pattern, you have a trigger, usually an emotional stimulus.

Next, you have a thought about that trigger. Like, “Hmmmm… I really could go for something ice cold, salty and sweet, yet tangy.” You could call it a craving, although it may not be an actual physiological need.

Finally, you react. You might say, “I’ll take a li hing mui margarita, blended, with extra lime.”

The trick– and really, it is tricking your mind, in a way– is to disconnect Point B from Point C.

You could substitute the li hing mui margarita for something less caloric. You could say, “Hey! I don’t even want a drink, I just want to hang out with my friends.” You get the point.

So, I’ve pre-conditioned myself in a number of situations, usually social situations involving food, to react a certain way.  Movie? Gotta eat popcorn. Dessert, ladies? What do you have that’s chocolate?

So, this week, I’m on a quest. I’m searching for healthy substitutes. And I’ll stay connected, including posting my daily workouts here, to stay accountable.

In 2 weeks, I plan to have some amazing results!

For those of you interested in M.C.’s progress (one of  my friends who’s joined my  journey), they are here, too! M.C. is a 6’1″, 33-year old male.

Thanks for sticking with me through this transformation!

Thanks for the update. Like the ABC analysis. let me know what kind of substitutes u come up w/. BTW, I say “not fair” that MC has already lost 20 lbs. Obviously, he does not have the ABC issue…(and for the record, I still like chocolate)

:) There IS no substitute for real chocolate! So, I just make sure that I am eating the BEST chocolate (dark and organic)!
I chatted with MC recently, and he’s struggling, too! I’m so proud of him- he doesn’t have a personal trainer (I like a fair amount of hand-holding), he has children, a busy schedule, and is just learning by doing. And, he likes chocolate cake like me! So, if he reaches his goal before I do, awesome!
I think one of my blogs will be all about food and substitutes! Thanks for the idea!

  3. Hey there! This post could not be written any better! Reading this post reminds me of my good old room mate! He always kept talking about this. I will forward this write-up to him. Pretty sure he will have a good read. Many thanks for sharing!
